Banana Wrap & Date Spread Recipe

Looking for a snack that's both delicious and nourishing for your little ones? This recipe will make sure they get the best of both worlds!


This recipe is intended for children ages 1-5 and meets the food component requirements for a snack. The strawberries meet the fruit meal pattern contribution, and the tortilla meets the grain meal pattern contribution. Thank you, Kiss in the Kitchen!

Banana Wrap with Date Spread Recipe

Ingredients


HM Date Spread

  • Milk | 1 cup

  • Dates, pitted | 1 cup

  • Cocoa Powder | ¼ cup

  • Vanilla | 1 tsp

  • Honey | 1 Tbsp

  • Salt | pinch


Remaining Ingredients

  • Bananas, medium | 8 whole

  • Whole Wheat Tortilla | 4 each


Directions


HM Date Spread

  1. In a small pot, warm up milk and dates until milk is hot and dates are softened.

  2. Let milk and dates cool, then pour into a blender and add cocoa powder, vanilla, honey, and salt.

  3. Blend until smooth; taste for sweetness. Add more honey or milk if needed.


Wrap

  1. On a flat, clean surface, lay the tortilla flat and spread a thin layer of homemade chocolate date spread (1 Tbsp).

  2. Peel and place 2 bananas across the long length of the tortilla. Roll the tortilla tightly. Repeat steps 1 & 2 for all 4 tortillas.

  3. Cut each tortilla in half, and then cut halves into smaller bite-size pieces.
